Change is Good … Even when it’s Bad

Change is always happening, embrace it, be grateful for it, and enjoy it!” –Chip Esajian

Change is often perceived as something to be feared or avoided as it generally involves moving out of our comfort zone. Change can cause stress, anxiety, and sometimes anger; whether it impacts our personal and/or professional lives.

When stress levels are through the roof, it can be challenging to recognize that change generally leads to new opportunities. In my case, realizing that my ‘job’ was in jeopardy shortly after the birth of our first child was VERY stressful. We were new home owners, new parents and my income was important to our livelihood. Long story short, the situation prompted us to examine our options and resulted in relocation to a different city. My husband took the opportunity to leave a job where he was unhappy and begin a new career. I changed the direction of my ‘off the side of my desk’ moonlighting activity to a more focussed business venture. In the years since, many changes, both minor and monumental have continued to take place in our personal and professional lives.

Positive and negative situations in our lives that can trigger stress usually involve change; such as Finances, Employment, Performance, Relationships, Relocation, and Loss. At one time or another we can expect to face most, if not all, of these situations. Retraining ourselves to accept and welcome change as a positive motivator can lead to unexpected opportunities.

As much as we’d all like the window of opportunity to open before the door of current comfort closes, it’s seldom the case. The ability to embrace change, especially when painful or seemingly bad, takes practice and conscious effort.

  1. Audrey says:

The important thing to remember is that we are in the drivers seat with our CHOICES. We get to make the decision of how we are going to react to what comes into our lives. This is a very powerful piece of knowledge to put into practice.

  2. This is a great reminder that everyone is dealing with change of one kind or another. “Stability” can often be too fleeting. Embracing change positively is certainly a crucial life skill!
